16 January 2014

The University of Queensland is warmly congratulating almost 11,000 students who have received an offer to study at UQ in 2014.

UQ President and Vice-Chancellor Professor Peter Høj said UQ looked forward to welcoming students who received an offer either today, through the major Queensland Tertiary Admissions Centre (QTAC) round, or late last year.

He said other people still had opportunities to study at UQ – one of the world’s top 100 universities – because places in a variety of programs would be available in the February 6 QTAC offer round.

“The next offer round will hold exciting opportunities for aspiring students who are still considering their options,” Professor Høj said.

“Even if you have not received your preferred choice, there may be options for you to study at this global top 100 university and take a key step towards becoming a graduate who is highly sought-after by employers.”

Applications for the 6 February round are due by 22 January, and the QTAC deadline for changing preferences is 30 January.

UQ made more than 9000 offers this morning, in addition to about 1800 late last year.

Professor Høj said there had been a particular surge in interest in nursing and midwifery at UQ.

“This growing popularity appears to be linked to a new alliance between UQ and the Mater Hospital that enables applicants for nursing and midwifery to nominate the Mater as their preferred clinical school,” Professor Høj said.

“The scores needed for these Mater offerings are OP 8 for the Bachelor of Nursing, and OP 6 for the Bachelor of Midwifery and the dual Bachelor of Nursing/Bachelor of Midwifery.

“UQ’s new Bachelor of Advanced Science (Honours) has also attracted high-performing students, to the extent that it requires an OP 3.

“Talented students’ interest in engineering is holding firm, with engineering requiring an OP 6 at UQ.

“The approximately 1000 new students who will enter UQ engineering in 2014 will gain the capacity to make essential contributions to the Queensland and national economies.

“Like the thousands of other students who we will be proud to welcome in 2014, they will have strong prospects of emerging as outstanding contributors to society,” Professor Høj said.

Further details on the cut-off scores for UQ programs is available here.
