Update: 13 November 2013, Police found no crime had been committed and further investigation was not warranted.

The Queensland Police Service has been advised of an incident involving University of Queensland students on placement at Blackall.

UQ Academic Registrar Mrs Maureen Bowen said she had been informed police had been notified of an incident that occurred on Tuesday, in which a goose had been killed and prepared for cooking.

The students were in Blackall under an arrangement between UQ and a private medical practice operated by the Blackall Hospital Medical Superintendent.

They were staying in hospital accommodation at the time of the incident.

“The University considers any allegations of student misconduct very seriously, and discourages any behaviour that might break the law or offend community standards,” Mrs Bowen said.

“We would investigate any allegations in accordance with the Student Integrity and Misconduct policy.”

She said any such investigation would take place after police inquiries had run their course.

Mrs Bowen said the students’ placement at Blackall had been terminated.

Central West Hospital and Health Service (HHS) Executive Director of Medical Services Dr David Rimmer said the health service was concerned about the incident and had asked the police to investigate.

“Central West Health has an obligation to inquire into these events as the incident is alleged to have occurred on hospital grounds and the students were being supervised by a doctor who is also in the employ of the health service,’’ Dr Rimmer said.

“As such, I intend to have the matter investigated fully and take any action deemed appropriate.”
