The University of Queensland has won the Award for Excellence in International Education Delivery at the Lord Mayor’s Business Awards 2013.

UQ has a long awards history and has won more awards for teaching than any other Australian university.

UQ Office of Undergraduate Education Director Dr Jessica Gallagher said the University was nominated for demonstrating excellence in international education delivery.

“UQ has developed a unique student leadership programme for undergraduate students, the UQ Advantage Award,” she said.

“The award provides students with opportunities to extend themselves beyond the classroom, gain a better understanding of the world, and develop key competencies that employers value.”

Dr Gallagher said UQ was widely recognised throughout Asia, with outstanding alumni engaged in senior positions across academia, business and government.

UQ services include extensive support and resources to connect graduating students with prospective employers.

These services extend to regular professional work experience showcases by national and international employers and on-campus visits by international recruitment agencies for returning students.

Dr Gallagher said UQ was also commended for allowing students to select activities specific to their interest areas and undertake symposium seminars that enhanced their national and global perspectives.

“The UQ Advantage Award activities link student experience with the Brisbane community, highlighting our city as a destination for study, work, investment and permanent residency,” she said.

“More broadly, UQ hosts multiple study tours for visiting student groups from across the globe and engages with local schools and colleges to further promote the educational opportunities Brisbane has to offer international students.

“All these activities lead to the broader cultural engagement and social responsibility UQ endeavours to develop, both individually and collectively, through student representation in the award program,” she said.
