The University of Queensland will host a free parenting support seminar for parents of children with special needs at its St Lucia campus on Saturday, September 7 from 10 - 12pm.

Parents of children aged 2 to 12 years can register for the ‘Teaching Children with Disabilities New Skills’ seminar by going to www.triplep-steppingstones.net.

The seminar is part of the Stepping Stones Triple P (SSTP) Project which is funded to provide every parent of a special needs child in Queensland with free access to evidence-based parenting support.

Support is being provided through Stepping Stones, which is part of the internationally acclaimed Triple P – Positive Parenting Program founded by Professor Matt Sanders from UQ’s Parenting and Family Support Centre (PFSC).

A Queensland research study found Stepping Stones reduced problem child behaviour by 76 per cent and significantly lowered parent stress and depression levels.

The UQ seminar will be presented by Associate Professor Kate Sofronoff, one of the project’s lead investigators and Head of Disability Research at the PFSC.

The venue is Room 201 in the McElwain Building (24A).
