Seven researchers from The University of Queensland have been shortlisted for this year’s Australian Women in Technology (WiT) Awards.

The Institute of Molecular Bioscience’s (IMB) Professor Melissa Little has been nominated for the Biotech Outstanding Achievement Award, as well as the Biotech Research Award.

Associate Professor Jacqueline Batley from the School of Agriculture and Food Science is also a finalist in the Biotech Research category, while Associate Professor Marta Indulska from UQ Business School is a finalist in the Infotech Research category.

The three UQ finalists for the PhD Career Start Award are Ms Claire Wainwright (School of Biological Sciences), Clementine Pradal (Australian Institute for Bioengineering and Nanotechnology), and Alexandra Depelsenaire (Australian Institute for Bioengineering and Nanotechnology).

Dr Jessica Frith, also from the Australian Institute for Bioengineering and Nanotechnology, has been shortlisted for the Rising Star Award.

UQ Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research) Professor Max Lu said the researchers were high achievers in their individual disciplines.

“The WiT Awards provide a wonderful opportunity to recognise the outstanding contributions of women to research, innovation and technology development.

“We are very fortunate at UQ to have so many of the country’s leading women researchers working in our centres and institutes, creating opportunities for students and our industry connections to address major global challenges, as well as becoming role models for young women considering scientific careers,” Professor Lu said.

“UQ congratulates these staff members and students on being selected as finalists in one of Australia’s premier science and technology awards programs.

“We wish them every success in the final stage of the awards and with their ongoing research endeavours.”

The WiT award winners for 2013 will be announced at a gala dinner in Brisbane on 6 September.
