Parking signs at The University of Queensland are getting a makeover, but only to bring their design in line with Brisbane City Council parking signs.

UQ Property and Facilities Transport Systems Manager Mark Kranz said the modified sign layout would be introduced at the beginning of Semester 2, and that it would include no change to the function of any car park.

“This is purely a switch to ensure we are consistent with the sign layout used by the local Brisbane councils. The University crest will be the only difference,” said Mr Kranz.

All parking zones will remain as they are, as will the pay-and-display machines and the parking fees.

“No one will have to change the way they park and pay at all, and they will still pay the same for a 14P Daily Rate park as they did for an All-day Zone. It is simply the name that has changed.”

The most significant changes are:

1½ P (replaces Short-term zones)
14P – Hourly rates apply (replaces Long-term zones)
14P – Daily rates apply (replaces All-day zones)
Loading Zone – Service & Maintenance Vehicles (replaces Service & Maintenance signs).

Mr Kranz said the move was to simplify navigating the campus grounds for everyone, and that it would be rolled out across the St Lucia, Gatton, Ipswich and Herston campuses.

The first phase of the roll-out of the new signs is limited to Mill Rd car park, University Drive, Campbell Road, Blair Drive, Psychology car park off Blair Drive, Keith Street car park and UQ Rugby car park.

“The University is a major venue for visitors so keeping the signs consistent with the rest of Brisbane will help them also,” Mr Kranz said.

The Parking at UQ website will be amended to reflect the new signs.

Time limits (depending on location and access) will apply for service vehicles and exemptions to time limitations must be approved by the Security Manager.
