The University of Queensland has welcomed today’s release by the UQ Union of an independent auditor’s report. The Union also released an action plan in response to the audit’s findings.

UQ Vice-Chancellor Professor Peter Høj said he was satisfied the Union had fully cooperated with the auditors in conducting their report.

“The UQ Union is an independent organisation. However, as it represents our student body the University will support the Union in implementing its action plan,” Professor Høj said.

He noted the audit and subsequent action plan would lead to robust discussions within the UQ community.

“Healthy debate and freedom of thinking are signs of an engaged University community, so these discussions should be welcomed as an example of the democratic environment we operate in,” Professor Høj said.

As part of the action plan the University has agreed to assist the Union in the development of a Student Election and Campaign Charter.
