China’s Tianjin University (TU) has presented University of Queensland (UQ) Vice-Chancellor Professor Peter Høj with its highest honorary title.
The TU Honorary Professorship Award is conferred to distinguished international experts who have reached outstanding academic achievements and will help TU enhance its academic excellence.
Professor Høj is the first from UQ to receive this award and joins only four other academics from Australia to be named a TU Honorary Professor.
President Li Jiajun of TU bestowed the title on Professor Høj at a ceremony at Tianjin University, China last Friday.
Professor Høj said he felt “extremely honoured” to receive the award.
TU is a top-tier university in China and is the UQ Confucius Institute’s Chinese university partner.
Dean of the School of Life Science at TU Professor Yu Xiaofang said Professor Høj was recognised for his contributions as a researcher and his collaborative efforts with TU.
“We have given Professor Peter Høj this Honorary Professorship Award for his outstanding contributions as a researcher in biochemistry and as a leader of some of the most important academic institutions in Australia, as well as his contributions to the collaboration in research between Tianjin University and Australia over many years,” he said.
Only 69 academic experts have been presented a TU Honorary Professorship in the Award’s 117-year history.
Honorary Professors meet with TU students and faculty members to share their insights on developments in their related field, and help strengthen the relationship between TU and their home institutions.
Tianjin University was established in 1895 as Peiyang University and was the first university in China. It is one of the National Key Universities directly under the administration of the Ministry of Education.
