The training and education carried out at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital (RBWH) will be released in a comprehensive report today.

Assistant Minister for Health Dr Chris Davis, MP, will launch the 2011 Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital (RBWH) Education Report at The University of Queensland’s Herston campus at 10am.

The report created in conjunction with UQ and with the support of partner organisations including The Queensland University of Technology and Queensland Institute of Medical Research, showcases the scale of education provided at RBWH.

RBWH Executive Director David Alcorn said this report not only demonstrated the vast educational effort that took place at the hospital but also the complexity of a large teaching hospital and the large numbers of educational partners who send students or educate staff.

“The report showcases RBWH’s commitment to education and training for today’s workforce and the workforce of tomorrow,” Dr Alcorn said.

“We play an integral role in teaching, supervision, mentoring and education of health professionals and support staff, from student through to practitioner.”

A valuable resource for planning future educational endeavours in Queensland and nationally, the report was created to inform the hospital community of the type of education and training conducted by RBWH.

Dr Alcorn said the report was one step closer to RBWH achieving official recognition as an Academic Health Sciences Centre.

UQ Faculty of Health Sciences Executive Dean Professor Nicholas Fisk said education and research were critical to high quality health care.

“By carefully examining our educational endeavours, we hope to identify strengths and opportunities, which will translate into better health care for patients,” Professor Fisk said.

Media are invited to attend the launch today at 10am, at the UQCCR Building 71/918, Level 4- Room 402, UQ Herston Campus, Herston.
