Award-winning films from 11 Latin American countries will feature at this year’s Latin American Film Festival, taking place at The University of Queensland’s St Lucia campus from October 11 – 14.

2012 marks the sixth year UQ’s School of Languages and Comparative Cultural Studies has hosted this free public event and Head of School Associate Professor Morris Low said the Festival recognised the importance of maintaining close relationships with Latin America.

“The Festival highlights the important links the School has with Latin America - we now boast the largest Spanish program in Australia and also offer courses in Brazilian Portuguese," Associate Professor Low said.

The event also flags the growing links between Australia and Latin America in trade and investment.

“The School maintains very close links with the Latin American Embassies and community and we are very grateful for their continued support of the Film Festival.

"This annual event provides an ideal opportunity not only to celebrate Latin American culture but also to increase public awareness of this important region.”
