The University of Queensland has achieved multiple five star ratings in an independent ranking of Australian universities released today.

The 2013 edition of The Good Universities Guide to Universities, TAFEs and Higher Education Providers gave UQ the maximum five-star ratings in the following categories:

• Positive graduate outcomes
• Student demand
• Research grants
• Staff qualifications
• Research intensivity
• Toughness to get in (St Lucia campus) and
• International enrolments.

UQ also earned four-star rankings in the categories: getting a full-time job, graduate starting salaries, student-staff ratios, gender balance, non-government earnings, and toughness to get in (Ipswich campus).

The Good Universities Guide provides ratings, rankings, comment and information about Australian higher education institutions.

It says: “The University of Queensland was the state’s first university and remains one of the country’s prominent research-intensive institutions.”

Vice-Chancellor Professor Debbie Terry said UQ consistently received excellent endorsements across all the major ranking systems internationally and in Australia.

“UQ provides a real advantage to its students and graduates, with a strong track record over more than a century," she said.

“Prospective students can be confident that UQ’s internationally-recognised credentials will stand them in good stead throughout their careers.”

Last month UQ confirmed its status as one of the top 100 universities in the world. With a ranking of 90 in the Academic Ranking of World Universities, it was one of the top three universities in the country and the only Queensland university ranked in the world's top 100.

More than 1000 universities are ranked by ARWU every year and the best 500 are published on the web at http://www.shanghairanking.com/index.html

A number of other major world university rankings will be released in coming weeks, including the QS World University Rankings on September 11 and The Times Higher Education rankings on October 4.
