Rugby is strong at UQ with four students named on major teams to represent Australia on the international and Pacific stage.

UQ students Sam Reiser, Curtis Browning and Con Foley were named on Australia’s Junior World Cup team to play at the IRB Junior World Championship in South Africa, which began on June 5.

Reiser and Foley were part of UQ Rugby’s premiership-winning Premier Colts team and have come through UQ’s Rugby Academy, while Browning has featured regularly in Premier Grade fixtures for UQ over the 2012 season.

“It’s really exciting for the boys,” UQ Rugby Football Club manager David Enfantie said.

“We’re really happy to see them make the squad and hopefully they play well in South Africa.”

The Australian team’s first game is against Argentina on June 8.

Premier Grade flanker Vili Faingaa will also take on representative duties over the coming weeks as he heads to Japan to represent Tonga in the Pacific Nations Cup.

The younger brother of the Faingaa twins (Wallabies players Anthony and Saia) was excited about making his debut on the international stage. The team played Samoa on June 5, losing (20-18) and will face Japan on June 10.

“It’s something I've always aspired to do, represent my country whether it be Australia or Tonga,” Faingaa said.

"I've worked really hard in the off-season and I'm very happy to be given the opportunity to play."
