UQ Ipswich staff, students and the local community now have a new learning and conference facility available with the official opening of The Auditorium at The University of Queensland Ipswich Campus today, December 1.

The new $5.045 million facility was opened by UQ Senior Deputy Vice-Chancellor Professor Michael Keniger, along with Pro-Vice-Chancellor Professor Alan Rix.

Professor Keniger said that the Ipswich Campus had benefited from the support of the local community.

“The University is honoured to be an integral part of the Ipswich community, and to be entrusted with this magnificent 25-hectare heritage site, which holds a special place in the hearts and minds of all in the region,” Professor Keniger said.

Professor Rix acknowledged the design of The Auditorium in keeping with the heritage features of the campus and while ensuring that the students and community have access to the latest technology.

“The Auditorium recently won a Gold Award for Design at the Ipswich City Council Awards and includes the latest in video conferencing and audio-visual technology,” Professor Rix said.

“Being the largest raked theatre in Ipswich we encourage the Ipswich Community to consider The Auditorium for their events and conference.”

The Auditorium becomes the largest teaching space available at the Ipswich Campus with a capacity of more than 350.
