The UQ Tennis Club will mark its centenary with an all-day party from 10am-6pm this Sunday.

The UQ Tennis Club was founded in 1911 and is the largest sporting club on campus with 695 members. It was one of the four founding sports clubs introduced to the University.

Club secretary Doug Bergman said the club’s 100th year was among its toughest to date.

“As we all know the floods came through and caused havoc at UQ. In no place was it more evident than down here at the tennis centre,” Mr Bergman said.

“We had to wait patiently to see what would happen but we are happy all new courts are now up and running.

“The day will include mini tournaments, beginner practice sessions, a service speed competition, coaching demos, plus loads more."

Entry on the day will be $10 for adults and $5 for students, seniors and children.

Sunday afternoon social tennis will still run as normal.
