Researchers from UQ’s School of Economics have received more than $1 million in this year’s round of Australian Research Council Discovery Grants.

The Australian Research Council (ARC) announced today the successful recipients of the Discovery Projects that will receive Government Funding for research commencing 2012.

The $1,071,515 in funding for the School represents 20 percent of the total number of grants awarded for economics and 50 percent of the total number of grants awarded for econometrics Australia-wide.

Head of the UQ School of Economics Professor Flavio Menezes congratulated the academics from the School who contributed to the funding success.

“This latest success is remarkable and consolidates our position as one of the premier economics departments in the nation," Professor Menezes said.

The successful projects were:
• Paul Frijters received $130,000 for three years for the project: Status Seeking and Economic Behaviour;
• Simon Grant, Jeff Kline, Mamoru Kaneko, Flavio Menezes and John Quiggin received $351,515 for three years for the project:Games and decisions with bounded rationality: Theory and economic implications;
• Alicia Rambaldi, Ryan McAllister and S. Cameron received $170,000 for three years for the project: Econometric modelling of housing prices and their relationship to climate adaptation issues;
• KK Tang, Nicholas Rhode and Lars Osberg received $120,000 for three years for the project: Income insecurity in Australia: Who is feeling the pinch and why?; and
• Rabee Tourky, Rodney Strachan and Fabrizio Carmignani received $300,000 for three years for the project: Estimation of the continuous piecewise linear model and macroeconomic applications.
