Live music, yoga, didgeridoo playing and Mexican food were just some of the highlights at The University of Queensland’s Gatton Fiesta held recently.

The day was dedicated to building the campus community and enabling students to create new interest groups.

The event included motivational talks, a market day for students to register their interest in clubs and societies, and a Mexican dance.

The student behind the UQ Gatton Fiesta, Erin Duddy, said the success of the event was thanks to the contribution of all involved.

“The day went incredibly well,” she said.

“Everyone who took part, including the guest speakers, existing clubs and societies, and staff and students made the day a big hit.

“We've been able to talk to people who are coming up with some great ideas for groups they want to start.

“Some of the ideas include 50's dancing, archery and rock climbing. Once these new clubs are up and running it will really boost our campus culture.”

Guest speakers at the event were Tin Petersen, who started the modelling agency Mirror Mirror Agencies at the age of 19 and Associate Professor Peter Murray, who has transformed communities in Indonesia by teaching them how to raise goats.

The UQ Gatton Fiesta was sponsored by the UQ Union, UQ Gatton Halls of Residence, Commonwealth Bank, Coffee Club, The Big Orange and Subway.

The next event at UQ Gatton is the Walkway Markets, which will be held on September 8 from 10am – 2pm in the Central Walkway on the Gatton Campus. For more information or to have a stall contact Erin Pearl on (07) 5460 1229 or e.pearl@uq.edu.au.
