Potential students interested in studying Agriculture, Agribusiness, Animals and Veterinary Science headed to The University of Queensland’s Gatton Open Day last week despite the early morning rain.

An inflatable Southern Right Whale, animal and plant nurseries, sniffer dogs, reptiles and agricultural equipment were just some of the displays on offer. Tours of the residential halls, veterinary science facilities and the new pool and gym ran all day.

Year 10 student Bianca Pavier from Chanel College in Gladstone thoroughly enjoyed the UQ Gatton Open Day and said it has given her insight into choosing her future career path.

“I’m interested in studying either Veterinary Science or an animal major within the Applied Science program once I finish High School,” said Ms Pavier.

“Since I was a little kid I have always loved animals and I volunteer as a foster carer with my local RSPCA.

“I toured the vet facilities and attended a number of information seminars which were really informative,” she said.

Ms Pavier said attending the UQ Gatton Open Day provided insight into what she should study to end up in the right career for her.

UQ Ipswich Open Day is on the 24 August from 2:30pm – 6:30pm. For more information visit http://www.uq.edu.au/openday/
