Nominations for The University of Queensland’s 2011 Psychology Distinguished Alumnus Award are now open.

Now in its second year, the award recognises a UQ psychology graduate for significant contributions to the community.

“It provides the opportunity to acknowledge and reward outstanding achievements made by a UQ psychology graduate over a sustained period,” Head of School Professor Bill von Hippel said.

“All psychology graduates are eligible for nomination, so if you know of a psychology alumnus who deserves to be recognised for their achievements, make a nomination. Self-nominations are also encouraged,”

Nominations can be made for contributions in one or more of four different areas:

• Practice
• Research
• Community service
• Teaching

Last year, Professor Roger Dooley received the award for his achievements in psychology practice, supervision and teaching.

Professor Dooley said he was delighted to receive the honour in UQ’s Centenary year.

“There is nothing better than recognition by your peers,” Professor Dooley said.

“I value the bond of still feeling connected with the University from my time as a student to being a contributing teacher today.”

Nominations should include a brief outline of achievements and contributions, and can be sent to t.visser@uq.edu.au or Dr Troy Visser, School of Psychology, Reception Level 3, McElwain Building 24a, The University of Queensland, St Lucia, Qld, 4072.

Further information is available at psy.uq.edu.au/awd or by phoning (07) 3346 9517. Nominations close on August 15, with the award presented on November 2.
