Recent claims in the media that hackers had obtained passwords for email addresses at The University of Queensland (UQ) are inaccurate.

UQ’s Director of Information Technology Services, Rob Moffatt, confirmed there had not been any network security breaches at the University and none of the email addresses and passwords purported to be from UQ were compromised.

Mr Moffatt said the list published by a hacker group included one current UQ email address, but the password associated with that address was incorrect.

“We have investigated these claims and have ascertained that the group involved has not breached any active University accounts.

“UQ staff and students should not be concerned about the integrity of their University accounts.

“UQ takes these issues very seriously and will continue to monitor developments.”
