The University of Queensland will launch the newly constructed Newcrest HVAC Laboratory tomorrow night.

The Newcrest HVAC Laboratory will enhance the freedom of UQ Engineering lecturers to design and teach courses that develop specialised mining skills and knowledge in the application of fluid mechanics, thermodynamics and heat transfer in various heating and cooling processes.

Newcrest Mining Limited (Newcrest) has provided $270,000 funding towards the new laboratory. In addition, Newcrest will be announcing $480,000 in scholarship support to UQ engineering students over the next five years, with an additional $250,000 over the next 10 years to be used for mining engineering-related research projects.

Newcrest’s investment in the HVAC will ensure UQ graduates have advanced skills in these important areas, which will underpin the resources sector into the future.
