New students starting their Human Movement Studies (HMS) degree at The University of Queensland will be unaffected by recent flooding.
Other teaching areas in the five-level HMS building and nearby facilities will be used until the first floor is refurbished, Head of School, Professor Doune Macdonald said.
“The flooding affected some research and sporting equipment, and teaching spaces on the first floor," she said.
"Historic Olympic Games records along with other materials and equipment were removed by staff and students before the high-tide peak last Thursday morning.
“Thanks to the hard work of HMS staff, students, and contractors, the road to recovery is proceeding quickly and there will be minimal disruption for students.
“We have architects ready for the restoration and students can look forward to some fresh teaching and research areas, including a well-equipped Student Learning Centre that was under construction at the time of flooding,” she said.
Around 300 new HMS students will begin their studies when the 2011 university year begins on Monday, 28 February.
