New community education and training opportunities are now available through UQ College for the population of Ipswich and the region.

This community education provider, based at The University of Queensland’s Ipswich Campus, is a skill-based community training organisation open to all.

The Pro-Vice-Chancellor of The University of Queensland, Professor Alan Rix, said that this was an exciting innovation in education and training for the growing population of the Ipswich district.

“UQ College offers new pathways into tertiary education to improve career and business skills, while offering a stepping stone into the quality university learning environment of the Ipswich Campus,” Professor Rix said.

With the flexibility of a small company structure together with the quality in education requirements of The University of Queensland, UQ College aims to lead programs designed to match students’ needs, delivered with excellence.

UQ College Chief Executive Officer Rod Arthur said this week the College would commence its community education program offering a range of study options for school leavers and business people.

“We will soon be announcing our program offerings for 2011 which will provide opportunities into higher education,” Mr Arthur said.

UQ College Community Education Program is offering courses over the next few months in skills for job searching, accountancy skills, technology and skills for improving your business.

The first course will be on this Saturday, October 16 and is a workshop on improving internet in your home.
