A student at UQ has been awarded a prestigious Confucius Institute scholarship, for a semester of study in China with all tuition fees, accommodation and living costs paid.

Rachael Ross of the School of Languages and Comparative Cultural Studies recently won the first prize in the Queensland Preliminaries of the 9th Annual International “Chinese Bridge” Chinese Proficiency Competition hosted by the Confucius Institute at UQ last semester.

She was then recommended by the UQ Confucius Institute to compete in the world Semi-Final which was held in Changsha, China in July.

Rachael continued to excel at the world Semi-Final, earning the prize for ‘most outstanding competitor’ and Confucius Institute scholarship.

With such prestigious awards now available for competitors who attend this annual competition, it is expected that the event will continue to experience strong interest from university students in Queensland for many years to come.
