More than 1000 engineering students and industry representatives will come together on Friday, 3 September for the annual Young Engineers Australia (YEA)-UQ Careers Expo.

Representatives from companies including BMA, Aker Solutions, Brisbane City Council, Hatch, WorleyParsons and Xstrata will be out in force to meet potential future employees face-to-face.

The annual event organised by student society YEA-UQ provides an excellent opportunity for students to network with industry representatives and to find out more information about vacation work opportunities and graduate employment.

YEA-UQ President Ms Alexandra Kelly said that the Expo was an important way for students to connect with employers, who were keen to recruit top staff into their organisations.

“Engineering students from across Brisbane are expected to attend, however students from other disciplines such as commerce, human resources, environmental management and accounting should attend as well, as engineering firms employ a wide range of graduates,” Ms Kelly said.

“We anticipate another highly successful event this year, and I would like to thank the team of YEA-UQ students who have worked very hard to make it happen.”

The Expo will also feature presentations from major sponsors Engineers Australia at 11am and BHP Billiton Mitsubishi Alliance (BMA) at 12pm.

BHP Billiton Mitsubishi Alliance (BMA) Human Resources Advisor, Ms Stefanie Plummer said that BMA was very proud to support the 2010 YEA-UQ Engineering Expo as platinum sponsors of the event.

“BMA is currently selecting approximately 70 undergraduate students to take part in its 2010/11 Summer Vacation Program and the YEA-UQ Engineering Expo is a fantastic opportunity for us to meet with students and speak about career opportunities with BMA,” Ms Plummer said.

The YEA-UQ Engineering Careers Expo will be held in the UQ Centre (Building 27A) at St Lucia campus on Friday, 3 September from 10am to 2pm. Entry is free and no registration is necessary.

Students from all universities are able to attend.
