University of Queensland staff, former staff and alumni have been honoured in the Queen’s Birthday honours list.

Recipients with UQ connections, as currently identified include:

Officer (AO) in the General Division

Honorary UQ Doctor of Science recipient, 2007, and President of Indiana University Professor Michael McRobbie, for distinguished service to tertiary education, particularly through administrative roles and to contributions in the field of information technology and in developing international alliances between universities.

Member (AM) in the General Division

Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Research, Griffith University, 2004-2009 and Tutor, Education, The University of Queensland, 1971-1972 Emeritus Professor Lesley Johnson, for service to education as a leading academic, administrator and author, particularly in the fields of cultural history and feminist studies, and through the establishment of research centres for a range of disciplines.

Member, Advisory Board, Social and Economic Research Centre, UQ, 1998-2000. Mr Peter Henneken, for service to the public sector in Queensland, particularly as a leader in policy development in the fields of industrial relations and vocational training.

Adjunct Professor, Department of Paediatrics and Child Health, UQ Faculty of Medicine, since 2000; Clinical Professor, since 1997; Clinical Associate Professor, 1992-1997; Clinical Lecturer, 1975, Professor Alan Isles, for service as a hospital administrator, medical educator and specialist in the field of paediatric respiratory medicine.

Emeritus Professor Laurence Geffen, for service to neuroscience as a clinician and researcher, and to medical education. Professor Geffen was Co-Director, Cognitive Psychophysiology Laboratory, UQ, 1991-2007; Professor of Psychiatry 1991-2002; Dean, Faculty of Medicine, 1991-1994.

Chair in Experimental Haematology, UQ, 1992, Dr Trevor Olsen, for service to medicine as a clinical haematologist, and as an advocate for advances in the management and treatment of leukaemia.

Medal (OAM) in the General Division

Chairman, Friends of University of Queensland (Ipswich Campus), 2000-2004, Dr Frederick Hugh Bartholomeusz RFD, for service to medicine in the field of reconstructive surgery, and to medical administration.

UQ Emeritus Professor John Elkins, for service to education, and to people with learning disabilities. Professor Elkins was Director/Professor of Special Education, Fred and Eleanor Schonell Special Education Research Centre, 1984-1994; Professor, Graduate School of Education, 1996-2001; Acting Director, 1982-1984; Reader, 1980-1984; Lecturer, 1967-1979: Head/Dean, Faculty of Education, 1994-1995; Acting Head/Dean, 1989 and 1993-1994; Dean/Head, Graduate Schools of Education, 1994-1995; Professor, Special Education, 1996-2002; Director, Teacher Education, 1998.

Ipswich businessman Mr Thomas Edwards, for service to the community of Ipswich, and to business. Mr Edwards was a member, Ipswich University Implementation Committee which was involved in the establishment of an Ipswich Campus for UQ.

Board Member, Australian Coal Research Ltd, UQ Faculty of Engineering, 1991-1993, Mr Ian McCauley, for service to the mining industry.

UQ Bachelor of Economics graduate (1970) Mr Morris (Jack) White, for service to people with a hearing impairment, and to the community of the Australian Capital Territory.

Medal (OAM) in the Military Division

Warrant Officer Class One Gregory Edmond Barron, for meritorious service as the Regimental Sergeant Major of two Force Support Battalions, Force Level Logistic Asset Five and Queensland University Regiment.
