A UQ researcher who is working to better understand the ageing brain has been singled out for her achievements.

Associate Professor Nancy Pachana from the School of Psychology was presented with a 2010 ADC Future Summit Leadership Award at a recent forum in Melbourne.

The purpose of the award is to recognise and support Australia’s upcoming leaders, with nominees needing to occupy positions of responsibility or be seen as leaders in their field.

Dr Pachana is a practicing clinical psychologist and neuropsychologist, and a leading researcher in the area of clinical geropsychology, which focuses on the psychology of older adults and the aging process.

Dr Pachana is also the editor of the Australian Psychologist journal, an editorial board member for Clinical Geropsychologist and a member of the Board of Directors for the International Psychogeriatric Association.

“I feel honoured to receive this award, and I am looking forward to collaborating with other award recipients,” she said.

The initiative is sponsored by Australian Davos Connection Limited (ADC), a non-profit organisation set up to support leadership in the community.

The win gives Dr Pachana the opportunity to contribute to the Future Summit, mingle with other awardees and participate in the Australian Leadership Award Alumni Program for the next three years.

The Future Summit is Australia’s primary forum for community, academic, government and business leaders to share ideas, promote cultural, economic and social issues and develop plans for a sustainable and prosperous future.
