Ahead of World Press Freedom Day to be held at UQ this weekend, the UQ School of Journalism and Communication will hold a free World Press Freedom Day lecture series commencing tomorrow, Thursday, April 29 at the UQ St Lucia campus.
The first lecture in the series is entitled: A phone is just a phone? The potential and impact of new technologies in promoting freedom of expression.
It will be given on Thursday, April 29 from 10.30 am to 12 noon at the Social Sciences and Humanities Library Conference Room, Level 1, Duhig Building, St Lucia by Associate Professor Stephen Quinn, of Deakin University, Victoria.
On Friday, April 30, from 12.30 – 2pm, also at the Social Sciences and Humanities Library conference room, the topic in focus will be: Pacific freedom of the press: Case studies in campus-based media models. This lecture will be given by Associate Professor David Robie, Auckland University of Technology, Auckland, New Zealand
On Tuesday May 4, the topic will be: Challenges and opportunities: Independent press development in the Pacific. This lecture will be given by John Woods, Editor, Cook Islands News, Rarotonga, Cook Islands, from 12 noon to 1pm at the School of Journalism and Communication conference room, level two, Joyce Ackroyd Building, St Lucia.
