University of Queensland staff are encouraged to nominate or apply for the Vice-Chancellor’s Equity and Diversity awards, which recognise outstanding contributions to the University.

The awards will be presented at a free event at the UQ Centre, Union Road, St Lucia on Thursday, May 27 from 4.30pm – 6.30pm.

They are valued at $10,000 for the winner and $5000 for the runner-up. Award applications close on Tuesday, April 6, 2010.

Professor Mary Kalantzis, Dean of the College of Education and Professor of Education, Department of Curriculum and Instruction at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, US and Dr Anna Ciccarelli, UQ Deputy Vice-Chancellor (International) designate, are guest panellists at the awards night on May 27.

They will participate in an interactive panel discussion around the theme of Our Global Community. Broadcaster and author Mr Phillip Adams AO will chair the panel.

UQ Diversity Week 2010 aims to encourage staff and students to showcase the university’s
research, teaching and learning, and promote a deeper understanding of diversity in our University and its wider community. Staff can apply for a Diversity Week grant (up to $1000) to assist in holding a relevant activity or event.

Grant applications close on Tuesday, April 6, 2010.

A $1000 artwork design competition for Diversity Week 2010 (May 24-28) is open to current staff and students (except staff from the Office of Marketing and Communications and The Equity office).

Designs should link to this year’s Diversity Week theme, Our Global Community. The deadline for submission is Monday, May 3, 2010.
