Laugh, cry and enjoy the magic of mythical Labyrinth creatures at the third Latin American Film Festival next month.

The festival will run for five nights from 6pm onwards, starting on Thursday October 8 and closing on Friday October 16. The festival is a celebration of Latin American culture, food, language, music and dance.

All film screenings are free and everyone is welcome. Films will be shown at The University of Queensland campus, St Lucia, in the ICTE Auditorium, room 212, Sir Llew Edwards Building (#14), Campbell Road.

The program includes The Bodyguard (Argentina), The King of Idiots (Chile), The Snail’s Strategy (Colombia), El Benny (Cuba), A House with a View to the Sea (Venezuela), Black Butterfly (Peru-Spain), Two Sons of Francisco (Brazil), Pan’s Labyrinth (Mexico-Spain) and the documentary, La Matinee (Uruguay). The films cover a range of genres from a comedy about land ownership in Colombia, to a professional bodyguard’s life crisis, a biographical piece and the magic and cinematographic brilliance of the award-winning 2006 film Pan’s Labyrinth. The festival will also include the documentary La Matinee, which is about the artists of the Murga: a form of musical expression performed in Carnival.

All films include English subtitles. The 2009 festival will be opened by the Ambassador for Argentina, His Excellency Pedro Villagra-Delgado.
