With a planned new $2.5 million GP Super Clinic, state-of-the-art facilities and degrees that allow you to fast-track your career in less than three years – UQ Ipswich is the place to study in 2010.

Visitors to UQ Ipswich Open Day (August 19) can explore the Ipswich campus, learn more about the unique courses and study options, meet inspiring teachers and staff and experience the vibrant campus lifestyle.

Potential students can also test their lung function with the team from the Cardiorespiratory Physio Clinic, hear the sound of a baby’s heart beating at the midwifery display, as well as enjoy live entertainment and a free sausage sizzle.

Pro-Vice-Chancellor Professor Alan Rix said due to the success last year, the Ipswich Campus Open Day would once again be held mid-week on a Wednesday afternoon.

“This allows prospective students and their families the opportunity to come to campus at a time that does not conflict with their busy weekend schedules,” Professor Rix said.

“Open Day is the perfect time to enjoy the displays, gain valuable information, have a cup of coffee and get a feel for campus life.

“Current students will be on-hand to provide an insight into life as a UQ Ipswich student and University staff will provide information about our program offerings and career opportunities.”

UQ Ipswich celebrates its 10th anniversary this year, with exciting new developments planned for the campus.

Earlier this year, UQ welcomed the Queensland Government's announcement on the location of the new Bremer State High School, beside the Ipswich Campus. The University will work alongside the school and Education Queensland to develop the education precinct, as well as ensure cross-collaboration between the two institutions in terms of curriculum, training and future education.

UQ has also announced that with funding from the Federal Government, it will establish a GP Super Clinic at Ipswich which will have a standard GP service for management of acute presentations complemented by a focus on chronic disease and mental health.

The Ipswich GP Super Clinic will be led by UQ's Faculty of Health Sciences, one of the largest educators of health professionals in Australia.

UQ Ipswich Open Day will be held on Wednesday August 19, from 3:30pm-6:30pm. For more information, visit http://www.youruq.com/openday

Free parking is available on campus all day and visitors are welcome to use the free half-hourly shuttle bus operating between the campus and the Ipswich station. For transport information visit www.translink.qld.gov.au.
