A marketing lecturer at The University of Queensland has made it as a legit filmmaker, with listing on the website IMDb.
Dr Doan Nguyen wrote and directed Home of Strangers using a cast of young actors and students while aiming to use funds raised from screenings and DVD sales for a Vietnamese orphanage through Que Huong Charity.
Shot at UQ and Toowong, The Gap, Wynnum and Manly, Home of Strangers was screened at The Schonell Cinema on August 1.
There are also plans to screen the movie at The University of Melbourne as part of their Asia Week festivities on August 19. Negotiations are underway for inclusion on an international film festival circuit.
Dr Nguyen has established a production company for her next film script, which she says is already about 60 per cent complete.
