School of Pharmacy alumnus Peter Brand has been named a Member of the Order of Australia in the Queen’s Birthday awards for service to the profession and pharmaceutical education.

This prestigious honour comes just months after Mr Brand received the Pharmaceutical Society of Australia’s Lifetime Achievement Award.

Mr Brand graduated from the School of Pharmacy in 1967, after which he completed honours studies in 1969.

Currently he is the Director of Pharmacy Services for The Wesley Pharmacy and Associated Pharmacies. He has also been the Director of The Wesley Research Institute since its establishment in 1994 and served as Chairman on the institute’s board from 2001 to 2002.

Mr Brand is currently Chair of the Pharmacists’ Board of Queensland, Vice President of the Australian Pharmacy Council and Immediate Past President of FAPA (the Federation of Asian Pharmaceutical Associations).

He has also served as President of the Pharmaceutical Society of Australia at national and state level, Chairman of the Australian Council of Professions (Queensland Branch), Director and Deputy Chairman of QDL Ltd and Director of the Sigma Company Ltd.

President of the Pharmaceutical Society of Australia Warren Plunkett said Mr Brand deserved to be singled out for his achievements.

“Peter has made an enormous contribution to the development of the practice of pharmacy over many years, not just in his home state of Queensland, but also to Australia and the region,” he said.

The UQ School of Pharmacy values Mr Brand’s input on various committees, where he has been a vital contributor to the inception of the school’s flourishing alumni network.
