The Honourable Justice Martin Daubney, a current Judge of the Supreme Court of Queensland, has been elected the new President of the King’s College Council at its recent Annual General Meeting.
Kings College, at The University of Queensland’s St Lucia campus, has had a tradition of legal experts on its council, following the recent retirement of Dr Robert Wensley QC, who chaired the council for four years.
King’s College Master and Chief Executive Greg Eddy welcomed Justice Daubney as President and looked forward to his future work with the college.
“Following on the good work by Dr Wensley QC, we are delighted to have a person of the calibre of Justice Daubney take on this important and strategic role,” Mr Eddy said.
Justice Daubney, a graduate in laws and arts from The University of Queensland, lived at King’s College in 1981.
After 18 months practising as a solicitor, he was admitted to the Bar in 1988.
In 2000 he was appointed Senior Counsel and has practised in Australia and Fiji, in both litigation and mediation.
He was appointed to the Supreme Court of Queensland on 13 July 2007. At the time of his appointment, Justice Daubney was President of the Bar Association of Queensland.
His current appointments include Chair of the University of Southern Queensland Law Faculty Advisory Board, and membership of the Advisory Board of the Institute of Legal Studies within the Australian Catholic University and the Queensland Law Society’s Commercial Litigation Specialist Accreditation Committee.
Justice Daubney was recently made a Fellow of King’s College.
