Corbett Lyon will talk about his work in Melbourne and Brisbane as the next speaker in the UQ School of Architecture’s ‘City Thinking: Architecture Talks’ program.

The free event is to be held on Tuesday, May 12 at 6pm at UQ St Lucia.

Brothers Corbett, Cameron and Carey Lyon, with Neil Appleton and Adrian Stanic, established the major Melbourne-based architecture and urban design practice, Lyons, in 1996.

The firm is committed to the craft of architecture and urban design as an intellectual construct within the local and global culture.

Lyons’ recent projects include major commercial buildings, university, education and training facilities, urban design projects and large scale government defence, health and research projects.

The architecture produced by Lyons can be characterised as confident and self conscious about its cultural origins with a boldness that embraces the complexities of invention, ideas and identity.

In the past two years Lyons has won six state awards and three national RAIA Awards for the John Curtin School of Medical Research, ANU, Hume City Council Offices and the Automotive Centre of Excellence, Kangan Batman Institute.

Corbett Lyon and his senior colleagues maintain an active involvement architectural discourse through teaching, writing and lecturing at the University of Melbourne and RMIT University in Melbourne.

Corbett Lyon is currently involved in the design of the Queensland Children’s Hospital Project in Brisbane as an architectural association between Lyons and Brisbane firm Conrad Gargett Architecture.

Bruce Wolfe from CGA will introduce Corbett Lyon.

The event will be held in the Abel Smith Lecture Theatre, Campbell Road, UQ St Lucia.
