The University of Queensland has started the 2009 academic year with new and improved teaching facilities, committing $5.5 million to projects enhancing student learning.

Several improvements have already taken place, including the transformation of three teaching rooms in the Priestly Building into two 50-seat seminar rooms and installation of dual data projection in the UQ Centre lecture theatre.

The University is also giving students better access to lecture material through lecture recording system Lectopia, which will be installed in 26 lecture theatres, bringing the total number of rooms with the system to 36.

Academic Programs Unit manager Anthony Zgrajewski said UQ aimed to give students the best possible teaching and learning experience, and the provision of high quality teaching space was part of fulfilling that goal.

Other refurbishment projects initiated over the summer period include:

- Refurbishment of teaching space in the School of Music, including state-of-the-art teaching technology in all teaching and performing spaces
- Refurbishment and expansion of studio space for School of Architecture
- Construction of new Integrated Learning Centre 2 (iLC2)
- Additional undergraduate learning spaces in the School of Engineering

The main refurbishments scheduled for 2009 include three lecture theatres in the Physiology Building and lecture theatres on level one of the Priestly Building.

The University will also refurbish two main lecture theatres at the Gatton Campus in preparation of the relocation of the School of Veterinary Science to that campus.
