On behalf of the University, I extend my sympathies to staff and students who are affected by the terrible events in Victoria. I believe the entire UQ community will join me in expressing condolences to the people who are directly experiencing Australia’s worst bushfire disaster.
I encourage any staff who feel they need special consideration to speak to their managers, who will deal compassionately with their circumstances. If necessary, please take advantage of the free counselling service available to all staff through Assure Programs, 1800 808 374 or email info@assureprograms.com.au.
In the near future, UQ will endeavour to contact students – including commencing students – who are likely to have been affected, to make them aware of counselling and other services provided by UQ. If you hear from students needing support, please refer them to Student Services on 3365 1704 or s.heydt@uq.edu.au.
