School leavers who are still deciding on their future after receiving their OP's later this month can take advantage of free expert advice from Queensland's leading university.

The University of Queensland's Options Evening will be held on Monday, December 22, to help school leavers navigate the wide range of study options available at the University.

School-leavers will be able to speak to academic staff from all faculties on the evening, from 4.30pm to 7pm at the UQ Centre, Union Road, St Lucia.

UQ Student Recruitment Manager, Jessica Gallagher, said the aim was to help students and their parents or guardians make an informed decision before the QTAC change of preference deadline in early January, 2009.

“It is not unusual for people to be in a bit of a quandary about their study options after they receive their OPs,” Dr Gallagher said.

“Many people are surprised by their OP, and need to take a fresh look at their future after they receive their result.

“This event is organised specifically to help school leavers who need urgent advice about entry to UQ.

“Our academic and admissions staff will be there, and our student ambassadors will be on hand to give an insight into what students can expect when they study at UQ.”

Information on entry requirements, upgrading, prerequisites, QTAC process, alternative pathways and scholarships will also be available on the night.
