Ten of UQ Business School’s most outstanding MBA students have been recognised at the annual Top MBA Awards evening held at Brisbane Customs House.

The award winners are selected from the group of students graduating in 2008 and this year included seven academic excellence awards along with the Award for Service to the Community, the Director’s Award for Leadership, and the Top MBA Award.

Winning the Top MBA Award in 2008 was Peter Moutsatsos for achieving the best academic results over nine of the 12 required courses in the MBA program.

Successfully making the transition from project management in the financial services sector to the world of business consulting as a result of his MBA, Mr Moutsatsos said choosing to do a UQ MBA was one of the best decisions he ever made.

"Completing the UQ Business School MBA had an immediate positive impact on my career," he said.

"I found myself in the enviable position of being approached by four large and prominent consulting firms. I had the luxury of choosing the one that suited me best."

The Director’s Award for Leadership went to Jeffrey Loy, recently appointed to the position of Detective Chief Superintendent (and Director Professional Standards Command) for the NSW Police Force.

Winner of the Service to the Community Award Colin Hardcastle said his MBA helped him develop his professional and management skills as President and General Manager of the orchestra he founded in 2000 - the Brisbane Philharmonic.

The Academic excellence awards are made on the basis of academic results (Grade Point Average). The winners were Guy Chandler, Paul Hauenschild, Anthony Kepczyk, Brent Knight, Darren Krause, Michael Pickering, Nicole Tewierik.
