An event held as part of Brisbane’s Riversymposium will inform an international meeting on water resources.
Dialogue on Water, Energy and Climate Change, chaired by DHI, a water management institute with an office at The University of Queensland, will inform the 5th World Water Forum, to be held in Istanbul, Turkey, in March 2009.
Industry partners Australian National University, International Water Centre and International Riversymposium will also be involved in the dialogue.
The September 2 event will discuss Australia’s need to take action on climate change through appropriate water and energy management.
DHI Principal and dialogue chair Dr Bruce Hooper said water and energy production were inextricably linked and they needed to be considered together in order to respond to climate change.
The dialogue is one of several events being held as part of the annual Riversymposium event, which is in its 11th year.
Riversymposium, a hub of debate on sustainable water management, is part of Brisbane’s Riverfestival, which runs from August 29 to September 7.
UQ is well represented at this year’s Riversymposium, with Vice-Chancellor Professor Paul Greenfield, coral reef researcher Professor Ove Hoegh-Guldberg and other UQ academics contributing to the program.
