Can you picture yourself undertaking a postgraduate degree in Earth Sciences, Mathematics or Physics at a leading Australian University?

The School of Physical Sciences (SPS) at The University of Queensland is calling for applications to attend the annual SPS Postgraduate Information Days from August 28 to 31.

The School incorporates Earth Sciences, Mathematics and Physics, and the research and teaching staff are recognised as national and international leaders in their fields.

Every year, the School welcomes potential Research Higher Degree (RHD) students from Australia and New Zealand to campus for four days of academic and social activities. School staff are confident that this year will be the best yet.

“We’ve had great interest already from a wide range of candidates,” School Postgraduate Coordinator Dr Joseph Grotowski said.

“This is a unique opportunity to meet other students and potential advisors, see the work of current students, and experience the advantages of studying at UQ and living in Brisbane.”

Mr Andy Ferris, an attendee from the 2004 Postgraduate Day who is soon to complete his PhD in theoretical physics, says he wouldn’t have enrolled at UQ if it wasn’t for the opportunity to visit and meet his potential advisor.

“It was great to have the opportunity to meet so many genuinely interested potential advisors at UQ during that time. It really made me feel comfortable that my choice of project was the right for me and that I would be working with great people," he said.

“To see Brisbane, to explore the UQ campus, and experience the city and Southbank during the social events was a major influence on my decision to move to Brisbane.”

Candidates interested in attending the SPS Postgraduate Information Days are asked to submit an application by July 25, 2008. Participants will be selected on the basis of merit, flown in from anywhere within Australia and New Zealand, and accommodated near to UQ for the duration of the event.
