Throughout 2008, The University of Queensland Ipswich campus will host a series of Community Information Sessions for local families who consider tertiary study beyond their reach.

Under the initiative, coordinators of the “Reaching Out to Parents” Project at UQ Ipswich will deliver the workshops at seven locations across the region, from Gatton to Springfield.

These sessions will provide useful and practical information about the UQ-Link program, scholarships and pathways to higher education.

Manager of the UQ-Link program Deborah McLauchlan said sessions will appeal to a diverse range of people.

“The sessions aim to assist parents from a variety of backgrounds, who may not have previously considered higher education for themselves or their children,” Ms McLauchlan said.

“We’re particularly keen to speak with rural and migrant families, and families who don't have members who have been to university," she said.

“We would like people to be familiar with the wide range of support services available to prospective students to ease the transition into university."

The Community Information Sessions will be held from 10am to 12 noon at the following centres:

Laidley: February 28, Laidley Community Centre, 13 Mary St (Ph: 5465 1889)

Gailes: March 18, Gailes Community House, 30 Katrina St (Ph: 3879 3004)
