School-leavers who have received their OP but are unsure about their future can take advantage of free advice being offered by Queensland’s leading university.

The University of Queensland’s OPtions Evening, held at its St Lucia campus on Tuesday, December 18, will help prospective students navigate the wide range of study options available with some timely tips on gaining entry to their program of choice.

School-leavers will have the chance to speak face-to-face with experts from all of the University’s faculties from 4.30pm to 7.30pm at the UQ Centre, Union Road, St Lucia.

UQ Academic Registrar, Ms Linda Bird, said the evening aimed to help students and their parents or guardians to make an informed decision before the January 2 deadline for school-leavers to change or lodge preferences for the January QTAC offer round.

“It’s not unusual for people to feel unsure about their future after they receive their OP,” Ms Bird said.

“Many people are surprised by their OP and may need to re-examine their study options after they receive their results.

“This event provides them with the opportunity not only to seek urgent and much-needed advice about their course of study, but also to gain an insight into what university study and life at UQ involves.

“With a range of exciting programs available, some students may also find there’s something they’re really interested in that they hadn’t previously considered.”

Included in the event is a presentation that will provide advice about the QTAC application process, satisfying entry requirements, upgrading, and alternative pathways and scholarships.

Campus tours will be provided at 4.00pm and 4.30pm, before the program of seminars commences as follows:

5pm – Information for Parents of Prospective Students
5.30pm – Life as a UQ Student - including tips for first year students to help ease the transition from high school to university
6pm – UQ Admissions Session - including information about the QTAC application process, satisfying entry requirements, scholarships, offers, fees, how to enrol and how to optimise your preferences

UQ academic staff will be available before and after each of these presentations to speak with prospective students and provide more detailed information about the degree programs on offer at the University.
