Head of UQ Business School, Professor Tim Brailsford, has congratulated The Queensland Orchestra on its Limelight Award for the best orchestral performance of the year.

The awards are akin to the Logies for the Australian arts industry.

“Queensland Orchestra Managing Director, Michael Smith, is also the Chair of our School’s Industry Advisory Board and I am delighted to congratulate the orchestra on this great achievement,” Professor Brailsford said.

“Michael has done a great job leading the organisation through some challenging times and has created a highly stimulating environment that encourages the pursuit of excellence in performance. In effect, the culture is one where the orchestra’s highly talented players can shine.”

Mr Smith is the keynote speaker for UQ Business School’s Top MBA Awards to be held tonight at UQ’s Customs House.

Professor Brailsford said it was fitting that Mr Smith was the guest speaker as the awards ceremony was a celebration of excellence.

“The MBA is to UQ Business School what The Queensland Orchestra is to arts in Queensland,” he said.

“The Orchestra is both a symbol and a barometer of the health and wellbeing of the arts in this State – the MBA performs much the same function in a business school.”

UQ Business School’s Top MBA Awards will be held at Customs House tonight from 5.30pm. To find out more or to RSVP, please contact Amy Hyslop on (07) 3365 8561.
