World-leading economist Professor Myrna Wooders will next week present a half-day workshop hosted by UQ’s School of Economics at the St Lucia campus.
Professor Wooders from Vanderbilt University is a renowned expert in networks and game theory and will present the workshop, to be hosted by UQ’s School of Economics in association with the Australian Research Council Economic Design Network on September 13.
Entitled Networks and Games: A Mini-Course , the workshop will focus on the question: given preferences of individuals and rules governing network formation, what networks are likely to emerge and persist?
Professor in the School of Economics Flavio Menezes said Professor Wooders visit was a coup for the School.
“Professor Wooders’ visit further confirms the position of UQ’s School of Economics as hosting the leading microeconomics group in the country,” he said.
Professor Menezes said Professor Wooders was a world leader in the interface between public economics and strategic behaviour.
“Professor Wooders’ research is important because it highlights the insight from microeconomics that certain institutions, such as competition amongst jurisdictions for new residents, can play an important role in securing an efficient allocation of resources in the economy,” he said.
Professor Wooders has published extensively on club theory, the theory of local public goods and coalition theory. She is a fellow of the Econometric Society, Editor of the Journal of Public Theory, President of the Association of Public Economic Theory and Founding Editor of the Economics Bulletin.
Professor Wooders will visit the School from September 6 to 20 and will give an additional seminar to academic staff on September 14.
