UQ Master of Project Management student Lu Gan has been awarded one of only two $5000 postgraduate scholarships from the Logistics Association of Australia (LAA).

Sponsored by integrated logistics solutions company Swisslog Australia, the national scholarship program provides an incentive for undergraduate and postgraduate students to study logistics and supply chain management.

Lu Gan was proud and pleased to win the award.

“I was informed by my lecturer, Dr David Parker, that there was strong competition for the postgraduate scholarships and only two applicants were successful from around Australia," she said.

“I feel very proud to win the scholarship.”

With more than six years experience working in the logistics field, Ms Gan believes the intense competition on price and service means the only viable way to improve efficiency and lower cost is to improve the supply chain.

“My focus is on the risk control for this field, especially from the angle of contract. Only after studying the practice of logistics can better terms of contract be drafted to be more useful and feasible," she said.

“I want to continue with my procurement career. My studies have not only developed academic research skills but also will help me with my future career.”

LAA Vice President Education Joe Famularo said he was delighted to be working with Swisslog on such a significant project.

"The scholarships are an important contribution to academic excellence in the field,” he said.

“As well as the money, students will also be assigned one of our members as a mentor to offer encouragement and advice and – where relevant – share work experiences.”

Swisslog Australia Managing Director Pieter Feenstra said that his company was pleased to have the opportunity to join with LAA Ltd to ensure the development of professional skills for this key industry.
