The University of Queensland’s outstanding research achievements will be celebrated during Research Week 2006 from September 18 to 22.
The event is designed to raise awareness of current UQ research among the university community, the general public, industry, government and the media.
The week culminates with the annual UQ Foundation Research Excellence Awards on Wednesday, September 20.
Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research) Professor Siddle said the UQ Foundation Research Excellence Awards were among a range of initiatives created by the University to foster and nurture exciting research projects.
"Awards such as these are designed to foster the next generation of quality researchers," Professor Siddle said.
“Now in their eighth year, the awards reward and recognise outstanding performance and leadership potential.”
Professor Siddle said the awards were funded by the UQ Foundation and the University, and were among a range of initiatives created by UQ to foster and nurture exciting research projects.”
“UQ is proud of its record of achievement in research and research-training and this week is a highlight in the University calendar,” he said.
“These achievements can be attributed in large measure to the talent, creativity and dedication of our staff and to the fact that there is a shared vision and shared aspirations among this University’s community.
“UQ Research Week is an opportunity to pay tribute to everyone involved in such an important part of our University.”
A number of schools and institutes, as well as the UQ Graduate School and the Office of Research and Postgraduate Studies, are holding seminars, workshops and other events during Research Week.
Professor Siddle said he encouraged students, staff and the wider community to attend Research Week activities and events.
