Clinical Professor Fiona Wood, who received an Order of Australia in 2003 for her work with victims of the Bali bombing, will speak at the UQ Medical Society’s ES Meyers Memorial lecture on September 19.

The lecture will be held at Centenary Hall, Brisbane Grammar School, Gregory Terrace, Spring Hill, at 7pm.

Professor Wood is Director of the Western Australian Burns Service and co-founder and Director of Clinical Cell Culture. She has also been involved in a number of education and disaster response programs.

She is a consultant plastic surgeon to both the Royal Perth and Princess Margaret Hospitals and Chair of the McComb Foundation. In 2003, she received the Australian Medical Association Contribution to Medicine Award and was named Australian of the Year in 2005.

The UQ Medical Society has hosted the Errol Solomon Meyers Memorial Lecture since 1957, which commemorates the contribution to medical education made by Professor Meyers, co-founder of the University’s School of Medicine.

The annual lecture is a free non-profit event. Free on-site parking will be available.
