The University of Queensland Business School is today hosting the Queensland round of the prestigious Boston Consulting Group Business Strategy Competition.

Undergraduate and postgraduate teams from UQ Business School, Australian Catholic University, Bond University, Queensland University of Technology, and Southern Cross University will have to think on their feet with only a few hours to analyse a business case and present a strategy solution.

Teams then face a gruelling question and answer session with judges Ian McMaster (recently CEO of CSR) and Boston Consulting Group executives.

Competition regional coordinator Joshua Gray said the competition gave university students a great opportunity to apply their knowledge and skills.

“In the past, the competition has attracted students from a diverse range of fields including commerce, law, engineering, and science,” Mr Gray said.

UQ Business School’s Dr John Steen said the UQ Business School teams were outstanding.

“I’m sure all the teams will have worked very hard to prepare for today – the competition’s profile ensures a very high standard among participating teams,” Dr Steen said.

“I wish all the teams the best of luck.”

“In 2004, our undergraduate team won the national competition and our postgraduate team came a very close second. Last year’s undergraduate team made it to the final.”

The winners of the Queensland round will be announced at 4pm today. The winning teams in each division will fly to Sydney to compete in the national final in September.
