The Brisbane City Council has advised UQ that recent site inspections confirm the need for repair works on the West End ferry terminal at Orleigh Street.
UQ staff and students should note that repairs will begin on Monday, June 26 and are due to be completed on Saturday, July 15. During this time, the West End ferry terminal will be closed for all CityCat ferry services.
The Council says pylons and other infrastructure need to be replaced at the West End terminal to ensure the continued safety of the facility for transport users. It says the terminal will re-open and normal services will resume by Monday, July 17.
Brisbane City Council and its ferry operator, MetroLink Queensland, have undertaken to complete the required repairs.
The repair works will include the replacement of two existing pylons and the passenger jetty, as well as repairs to the gangway. The works are expected to take three weeks to complete subject to favourable repair and weather conditions.
A special floating crane will be located on site during the duration of the works. To minimise inconvenience, works are being carried out during UQ’s mid-semester break. Work will be carried out from Mondays to Saturdays from 7.30am to 5pm.
As a temporary arrangement, Council will operate a special bus service to take passengers to the nearby Dutton Park ferry terminal. A ferry will then transport passengers from Dutton Park to The University of Queensland CityCat ferry terminal. The shuttle bus is a free service.
City-bound passengers may wish to catch a bus at the West End ferry terminal to travel to the CBD via bus route 192 and BUZ199.
Alternatively, ferry passengers may connect to the CityCat Service via the Dutton Park ferry terminal.
