Wilston mum Megan Atchison has inspired the whole family to run UQ’s 5km Sunset Scamper Fun Run today (April 28).
Megan is a fun run veteran but looking forward to having company this time around when her husband and kids join her at the family friendly event.
Megan will be pushing her 16-month-old in a pram alongside her husband, 10-year-old son and 7-year old-daughter.
The race starts at 5.30pm at the UQ Athletics Centre, Sir William Macgregor Drive, The University of Queensland, St Lucia
Megan said fun runs had captured her children’s interest and they wanted to have a go.
“I just think it’s great that we’re going to come out and have fun as a family,” she said.
The 5km or 3km course at UQ’s St Lucia Campus caters to all abilities and will be run along the Brisbane River in the cool of sunset.
UQ SPORT’s Event Manager Andrea Walters said the event is great fun and open to everyone aged 6 and up.
“Completing a fun run alongside friends or family means you get to share an enjoyable, healthy activity together,” Ms Walters said.
“Fun Runs are suitable for all ages and abilities as you can just go at your own pace – making it gentle exercise or a good workout.”
The Sunset Scamper is one of the first fun runs on the busy Brisbane calendar and serves as a great training event for the upcoming running season.
The UQ Sunset Scamper is also an official warm up for the Gold Coast Airport Marathon.
